The Politics Report: The 2008 Recession, Murder and Mayhem on the rise

I hate to say it but it looks like purse snatching season is coming back to NYC in full effect. Wait, correction, it's coming back to the whole country because guess what folks, it looks like we're in a...well let's just call it a 'R-session' (the real word is so scary I hate to even write it). But thanks to Bush Jr. and 'reaganomics' we may all be on line at the soup kitchen real soon. Don't believe the hype of the 'R-session'? Well let's just look at the signs:

1)The US Dollar ain't worth sugar-honey-ice-tea. The value of our greenback are steadily on the decline, and will most likely be replaced by Euros in the World Market place. The Yen has us beat and now the Euro? Really folks you might as well start wiping your butt with those Benjamins, or maybe even use them to roll a nice cigarette because you're going to need a smoke after this economic down turn.

2) Unemployment is on the rise. We lost 80,000 jobs this past March alone. That means those bums you know hanging out at the corner store complaining about how they can't get a job, well it turns out they were right. And don't be so smug because pretty soon many of us may be selling loosies outside with them.

3)Foreclosures are up. See#2. No job+no money=no mortgage payment. Banks losing their money=you losing your house. See you at the Y.

4) Watch your Back. According to the NY Post murder rates were up 25% in NYC in the first 3 months of 2008. Remember that movie "Warriors" with the gangs overrunning the streets? Looks like life might imitate art in some big cities real soon. For every 1% increase in the foreclosure rate crime rises 2.3%. Hungry, unemployed, homeless people have nothing to lose and will do whatever it takes to eat. So you might want to start carrying some mace or something in your purse and practice your "Don't f-with me, I'm Crazy" face for the subway. Now all you "middle class" folks who voted for Bush must be feeling real stupid. Welcome to poverty.

The bottom line is tough times seem to be ahead so before you go out and buy a fifth pair of Pradas or $500 sunglasses maybe you should start saving those pennies...then again, spend 'em, in a few months they won't be worth squirt anyway.

Besides this show is like 'Sex and The City' only with young girls who are actually pretty (not just pretending they are). And since that movie doesn't come out for at least 6 more weeks 'The Hills' will have to tide you over. The new season started about three weeks ago and has been chock full of fashion, gossip, and mindless drama. Will Lauren and Brody hook up again? Will Heidi be able to mend her relationship with Spencer? Will Audrina follow Heidi's lead and buy a pair of lips? Don't care about the answer to any of these questions, then you my friend can not honestly call yourself a proud African-American. Good day and good night.

I know I am late, this happened like two weeks ago, but I can't pass up the opportunity to talk about this. Bill Cosby was on the Oprah Winfrey show on an episode people are referring to as "airing out our dirty laundry". I've only read some excerpts from this show, but I don't know why people are saying Bill aired out our business. In order to "air out" our business it has to be under wraps to begin with. Wake up black folk, it aint no secret- everyone knows you'd rather buy some new rims for your benz instead of paying for a tutor for your child who reads two levels below their actual grade level! Is it me or has television been really wack these days? "I Love New York" is played out, same gay guys, same big weaves. "Kimora Lee Simmons Life in the Fast Lane" seems like the same four episodes on a loop. Luckily I have two shows to recommend.

"The Game" comes on the CW on Monday nights at 9:30pm. It's basically about a young black couple and the ups and downs of their relationship. The lead character is Melanie, a med student who is torn between academia and her boyfriend Derwin's flashy pro-football lifestyle. For a sitcom its cute, fresh, and often very funny. Watch this with your boo boo to get a real good "discussion" going.

"Keyshia Cole The Way It Is" has it season premiere tonight at 10:30am on BET. First Mario now you Keyshia? Is everyone's mama on crack? I guess that explains why I can't sing a lick, cause my mom worked a 9 to 5 sober. Needless to say I will be tuned in tonight to see if Keyshia too will force her jailbird mom into rehab...you couldn't ask for a better storyline.

Last week in NYC, Mayor Bloomberg and City officials continued to prove that they hate poor people.
In an effort to fix a "loop hole" in the housing system. Homeless Commissioner Rob Hess announced that they would be putting restrictions on the emergency housing program that grants homeless families a room for the night when they come to shelters after 5pm. Hess and other anti-homeless city officials argued that these families are putting a financial strain on the city's resources by stayig in shelters every night when they can stay with family members. Hmmm, how can I say this without sounding ignorant? What the f&^^%$% are these people smoking? City Councilman Bill DiBlasio said it best, "For someone to keep coming back to that office and sitting for hours on end, that's not someone playing a game, that's someone who doesn't have an option." Are these city officials crazy? Did they personally go into each house and inspect every family's living situation? How do they know they have a safe, stable place to stay, without hostile, violent, or potentially dangerous relatives? Better question what kind of crazy person would stand outside every night for a room in a nasty shelter when they had other housing options? Obviously Rob Hess must be smoking that good ish. Mayor Bloomberg and his whole operation need to be put out of office.

At first I really wasn't interested in this whole 50 v. Kanye thing. I recognized it for the sick publicity stunt that it is. Plus I didn't like either's first few singles. I mean "Amusement Park" and "Straight to the Bank" are just re-done versions of "Candy Shop" and that other song. Plus Kanye's first two singles have some much synthesizer going on I thought it was German club music-argh! But now that the good music has finally come out on both sides, I may have to eat my words (well not the one's about 50 being a gaylord, I stand by that story). I can't lie I am really feelin' "Big Brother" and "The Good Life" by Kanye, and "I Get Money" by 50 is crazy! (The remix with Milk is even hotter). Soo who will sell more records? Last I heard Ye was in the lead, which I am not surprised at-not cause his music is better, but because thuggin is out of style. And America like's their blacks non-violent and un-threatening. Also America doesn't want their blacks getting too upitty so I suggest Mr. West cool it with the "I'm a genius" stuff. What's so genius about looping with a synthesizer? I digress, I say we all should just get both the albums-except me cause I only buy bootlegs...Yeah, I said it these two guys are millionaires, and I got bills to pay, so Ms. Chin I'll take two for $5 please.

According to a NY1 poll New Yorkers are divided about whether or not living conditions in the city have improved over the last 15 years. They asked 576 New Yorkers "Is the city better than 15 years ago?" 41% said YES, 38% said NO, and 18% said it was the same....hmmm. Would it be safe to say that the people who said yes are all wealthy? In reality the margin between the haves and the have-nots is just as great as ever in this city. So where's the improvement?

I would be too if I was cazillionaire! What the genuises over at 'US Weekly' should be discussing is the good mayor's shady politics. Take for instance this Congestion pricing plan he has been pushing, are people really buying this bull-ish? Do we really think Bloomberg really cares about all the little kiddies in the Bronx with asthma? OR is his real concern generating more dollars for the city? Dollars that will ultimately be spent on what? Education? I don't think so. Let's get one thing straight rich people don't become rich by helping out the little guy. If we look back far enough into the history of Bloomberg's business ventures I am sure we'd find a few that weren't so favorable to the environment or anyone's clean air and quality of living. Furthermore if him and the other NYC political bigwigs are so concerned with fresh air maybe they should all start riding the subway-for real this time Mike-instead of riding in an ozone depleting SUV while pretending to take the 6 train.

Harlem Residents get a taste of the Refugee life

And you thought it was just those Katrina folk who had it bad. Over 70 Harlem residents were evacuated from their homes at 305 W 150th street yesterday. The building which included 28 apartments, was being inspected and later found to be unstable and unfit for occupants. The fire department asked inspectors to check it out after they noticed some renovations taking place there. Aparently the owner of this building had been lying to the city about renting it out to tennants. My question is if this building were in say...Central Park West, and inhabited by lets say...wealthy financiers, would the city have waited so long to do something about this issue? Proof positive that from the Mason Dixon to the liberal North, if you're black, to this government you ain't worth Sugar Honey Ice Tea.

New episodes of "Life in the Fab Lane" come on Sundays at 8pm on the STYLE network. This week my favorite glamour girl Kimora Lee Simmons shops for a dress, and tries to get on the cover of a magazine again (can someone please tell her those days are over). Kimora does all this in her unique schizophrenic/fabulous style. Don't get me wrong I love KLS just as much as every one else but sometimes she makes me wonder. Did you see the episode where she was being interviewed in France? She was all over the place-talk about going off on a tangent! NEGRIL VILLAGE restaurant at 70 W 3rd street in the Village has a lower level called the "RHUM LOUNGE" If you like Reggae, Hip-Hop and Calypso, a nice mix of adult/professional and stylish types this is for you. The music is loud like a club, but if your feet hurt there is plenty of seating. The bar is always well stocked and offers a wide array of rums from almost every island in the Caribbean. Plus the price range is really good for NYC, most weekends its just $10 at the door (unless you arrive after midnight like I did last week, then they try to hit you up for $20!) There is a dress code: No hats, baggy pants, or athletic apparel. That aside the music, drinks, and crowd are hot, so don't be late!

This movie stars Clive Owen (from "Closer" and you know that bank heist movie with Denzel). Well needless to say the plot of this movie sounds kind of stupid (a mystical baby is born and for some reason is really important so everyone wants to kill it, but it must be protected at all cost-what is this 'The Golden Child'?) Still Clive Owen is on my list of Sexy-Ass White Boys who could get it. That being said I might actually see this flick, if not for the plot, characters, or dialogue, then for the eye candy damn it!

Welcome to the new ish in bloggin-TheRealAve.blogspot.com. Let me start by introducing myself, my name is Aisha
and I am a Jamaican-American, 27 yr old (September 5th-go Virgo) woman living here in South Queens. I figured I better get up on this blog game while it was still hot, so here I am. I am a former teacher in the public school, a would-be law student, a fashion junkie, and a funny/angry opinionated MFer on some days.

So right about now you will be asking yourself why should you check out my blogspot? What do I have to offer? I called my blogspot 'The Ave' because its short for Jamaica Ave, which (as you Southern Queens Residents know) is the center for fashion and occasional drama for us Queens heads. Since I am also reppin' Flatbush, BK strong it can also refer to Flatbush Avenue. So you can definitely expect some pics from both of these notorious spots.
